The Constant Gardener Assignment

Well... it's July 23rd and I feel as though I've had a long enough break from reading books that make me want to kill myself, so I started reading the Constant Gardener. On a scale from Harry Potter to the Scarlet Letter, I would rate it as being equally as annoying as the Grade 9 Etudes Atlantique text. Annoying and slightly painful, yet not so bad I want to poke my eyeballs out with a No. 2 pencil. Anyways, as I began the assignment (yay, homework!) I realized that all of my knowledge of literary techniques has pretty much vanished since the English exam, so after asking Wigg, who gave me some wonderful suggestions, I thought I would ask all of you other fools who have no life and actually are sitting here reading this .... what is the literary term for when a small portion of a text (like a paragraph or phrase) has a second meaning or underlying message ?

Thank you for your time and thought, now get back to your homework!

I'm Lost

So... summertime. No homework due tomorrow. No test next week. No 3 major projects to procrastinate on. Just an assload of free time, and I've no idea what to do with it. Having spent the last year on homework, I've forgotten how to just hang out with people. I still can't find a job, so working is out. *Sigh*... I think I'm gonna go study.

Summer Books!

Today, June 14th 2010, we all recieved (or should have recieved) our IB English summer books... Personally, I was really pumped for this (or maybe it was just the sleep deprivation after studying all night) because WE JUST GOT OUR FIRST ASSIGNMENT EVER IN IB. Basically. It's pretty exciting, so let the joys of IB begin!!! :)

(After exams of course)

I love this song - it reminds me of how utterly screwed my life is.

Pi Day!

Apparently, there is an unofficial holiday to celebrate pi on March 14 (eve of the ides of March... OMG). March 14 was chosen because March is the third month, and the fourteenth makes the shorthand version of 3/14. You know you're in IB when the first thing you think about when you read about pi day, is that we have to celebrate it with a real pie just like the one above.

School is INTENSE

A conversation that occurred directly before today's math test.

Dylan: That's easy, it's one-quarter-

Dylan and Mike together: n-s-squared-tan-90-minus-180-over-n

Dylan: BAMM!!!!

Mike: Props buddy!

*fist pound*

I am not proud of this, but it did in fact happen.

Later in the day, before our geography quiz, I lead a payer to our god Janel, one of this year's IB graduates.

Mike: Join hands everyone.

*Mike, Kati, Brandon and Dylan clasp hand and bow their heads*

Mike: Dear Janel, our god in IB, please impart upon us the knowledge to pass this quiz. Let your holy knowledge guide our hands as we label the countries of southeast Asia, so that we may avoid the bitter sting of failure. In your holy name we pray, Amen.

I plan on doing this before all of my exams.

Responding to Teacher's Blogs

It's sad enough when the most exciting part of your night consists of posting a comment on a blog, but it's even sadder when that blog belongs to your English teacher (Mrs. Hanley is awesome though).... and you actually CARE about what you're saying.... only in IB...

Field Trip to the Library

Who else would take a field trip to the library? Of course, it's only the IB kids. We sit crowded around computers, creating blogs, playing Neopets and researching the numberical value of Pi. When given a hour long break after lunch, this is all we could come up with.
